And <strong>water erosion<\/strong> is the most common reason (80%) for degradation of unirrigated farmland, followed by <strong>wind erosion<\/strong> (17%),<strong> salinity \/ alkalinity in land<\/strong> (2%) and <strong>water logging<\/strong> (1%)<\/li>\n<li>In rainfed areas, a lot of erosion happened because the topsoil remained exposed and got washed away easily with rains.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h6><strong>Impact on forest<\/strong><\/h6>\n<ul>\n<li>After unirrigated farmland, forest remains the most vulnerable to degradation, despite the common belief that afforestation is one of the surest solution to land degradation<\/li>\n<li>According to the<strong> India State of Forest Report 2019<\/strong>, India has a little over 71 mha of forestland. Of this, 30% forestland is degraded, says the land degradation report<\/li>\n<li><strong>Vegetation degradation<\/strong> which refers to as reduction in the biomass as a result of deforestation or overgrazing\u00a0is the major reason for forest degradation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h6><strong>Impact on North East region<\/strong><\/h6>\n<ul>\n<li>According to ISRO data, <strong>Mizoram<\/strong> in the North East has been <strong>desertifying at the fastest rate in the country<\/strong>.
