The administration of Jammu and Kashmir is taking various initiatives to restore the lost glory of Pashmina Shawls.<\/span><\/p>\n

What are Pashmina Shawls?<\/b><\/h5>\n

  1. Pashmina Shawl <\/b>is a f<\/span>ine wool made from the undercoat of the Changthangi or Pashmina goat.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Kashmir Pashmina<\/b> has been assigned a Geographical indication (GI) tag under the Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act, 1999.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    About <\/b>Changthangi or Pashmina goat:<\/b><\/p>\n

    1. Changthangi or Pashmina goat <\/b>is a special breed of goat <\/span>mainly found in the Ladakh region and Lahaul and Spiti in Himachal Pradesh.<\/span><\/li>\n
    2. The goats<\/b> are raised for ultra-fine cashmere wool, known as Pashmina wool.<\/span><\/li>\n
    3. These goats are generally domesticated and reared by nomadic communities called the Changpa in the Changthang region of Ladakh.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
      Initiatives to revive Pashmina Shawls:<\/b><\/h5>\n

      1. A Centre For Excellence (CFE)<\/b> has been set up by the \u2018Me&K\u2019 brand and Aditya Birla Group in Kashmir to restore the lost glory of handwoven Pashmina Shawls.<\/span><\/li>\n
      2. Directorate of Handicrafts and Handloom, Kashmir has announced a Minimum Support Price (MSP) <\/b>for geographical indication (GI)-certified hand-made Pashmina shawls to sustain the old techniques.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
