But he was a true child of India"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This post is based on the article \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dara Shikoh never became emperor<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d published in \u201cIndian Express\u201d on 31st August,2021.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>What is the News?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At a time when incidents of intolerance in the name of faith are being reported from Afghanistan, Dara Shikoh, one of India\u2019s most enlightened thinkers, needs to be remembered.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>About Dara Shikoh:<\/b><\/h5>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Dara Shikoh (1615-59) <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was the eldest son and a chosen successor of the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>He <\/b><b>was designated with the title <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Padshahzada-i-Buzurg Martaba (Prince of High Rank).\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>However,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> he was killed after losing the war of succession against his brother Aurangzeb.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h5><b>Dara Shikoh as Liberal Muslim:<\/b><\/h5>\n<ol>\n<li><b>Dara Shikoh <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was a champion of interfaith understanding, philosopher, artist, architect, translator, poet and administrator.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>He is described as a <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cliberal Muslim\u201d who tried to find commonalities between Hindu and Islamic traditions. He translated the Bhagavad Gita as well as 52 Upanishads into Persian.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Moreover, his most important works,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Majma-ul-Bahrain (Mingling of Two Oceans) and Sirr-i-Akbar (Great Mystery) are devoted to the cause of establishing connections between Hinduism and Islam<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><b>The architecture of Dara Shikoh: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dara Shikoh is credited with the commissioning examples of Mughal architecture such as:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The tomb of his wife Nadira Begum and Shrine of Mian Mir in Lahore.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dara Shikoh Library in Delhi.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Akhun Mullah Shah Mosque and the Pari Mahal garden palace in Srinagar, Kashmir.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: This post is based on the article \u201cDara Shikoh never became emperor\u201d published in \u201cIndian Express\u201d on 31st August,2021.
