However, around 40% of this forest cover has degraded into open forests and shrubs.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are many reasons for the widespread land degradation. Several of them are deforestation, mining and shifting agriculture (Jhum Cultivation).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hence, to manage the natural resources effectively, the Government of Meghalaya is implementing the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">MCLLMP Project.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><b>About <\/b><b>Meghalaya Community-Led Landscape Management Project(MCLLMP):<\/b><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>MCLLMP <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is a unique project of the Government of Meghalaya. The project is being <strong>supported by the World Bank<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Aim:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> To leverage the strength of the community to develop a sustainable Natural Resource Management system that will lead to<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The restoration of the degraded landscape of the state, and<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Build climate resilience and generate opportunities for livelihoods.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Duration of the Project: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2018-2023 (5 years).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h5><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><b>Centre of Excellence in Meghalaya:<\/b><\/h5>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>The Centre of Excellence <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is a one-stop centre for natural resources management.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Its mandate is to<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> build leadership capabilities to enable close cooperation among departments, democratise access to knowledge and continue with research and development on every aspect of natural resource management.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: This post is based on the article \u201cManaging natural resources\u201d published in \u201cThe Hindu\u201d on 1st September 2021.
