He tested positive for <strong>Fragile X Syndrome (FXS)<\/strong>. This shows the lack of awareness and appropriate training in diagnosing FXS.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>About Fragile X Syndrome<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Fragile X syndrome(FXS)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a genetic disorder. It is also known as <strong>Martin-Bell syndrome or Marker X syndrome<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>The syndrome is the leading inherited cause of <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">autism in 4% of the population worldwide. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Boys often have a more serious form of it than girls.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Caused by:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The syndrome <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is caused by changes in a gene called FMR1, which makes an <strong>important protein (FMRP)<\/strong>. This protein is required <strong>for brain development<\/strong>. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Children with <\/span><b>Fragile X syndrome <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>make too little or none of it<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Symptoms:<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The symptoms are learning difficulty, speech delay, aggressive behaviour, hyperactivity, attention deficit, problems in motor skills, etc.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Passed on from <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A <strong>mother who is a carrier<\/strong> of FXS has a 50% chance of passing the mutated gene to her children, who will either be carriers or have FXS.
