Somani.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Mandate<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: To undertake pre-legislative consultations and examine the present <strong>Drugs and Cosmetics Act<\/strong>,1940, examine <strong>previously framed Drugs and Cosmetics Bills<\/strong> and submit a <strong>draft document for new Drugs, Cosmetics and Medical Devices Bill.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What is the need for the new law?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Currently, the <strong>Drugs and Cosmetics Act,1940<\/strong> regulates the import, manufacture, distribution and sale of drugs and cosmetics. Through a recent amendment, the law <a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/medical-devices-now-under-drugs-and-cosmetics-act\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">incorporated regulation of medical devices<\/a> as well.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, the <strong>provisions<\/strong> of this act are <strong>limited to govern the rapidly expanding segment<\/strong> which has sophisticated and innovative products entering the market.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hence, the proposed new law will replace the existing Drugs &amp; Cosmetics Act, 1940.
