The Summit stressed the need to prevent Afghanistan from being used as a staging ground for terrorist attacks against other countries, as well as a sanctuary for terrorists. The BRICS nations also collectively adopted the &#8220;<strong>New Delhi Declaration<\/strong>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>The theme of the 13th BRICS Summit<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>The theme is <strong>BRICS@15: Intra-BRICS Cooperation for Continuity, Consolidation and Consensus<\/strong>. It is chosen by India.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>What are the initiatives\/key provisions of the New Delhi Declaration?<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><strong>Terrorism: <\/strong>It suggested adopting a <strong>comprehensive approach<\/strong> for the whole international community to effectively curb terrorist activities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>BRICS Counter-Terrorism Action Plan: <\/strong>It is aimed at implementing the <strong>counter-terrorism strategy and defines the approach<\/strong> and actions of the five countries towards counter-terrorism cooperation. This includes ensuring coordinated efforts to understand, identify and collaboratively respond to persistent and emerging terrorist threats.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Space cooperation<\/strong>: BRICS countries signed an <strong>Agreement<\/strong> on <strong>Remote Sensing Satellite Constellation<\/strong> among the space agencies of BRICS countries.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<strong>Inclusive intra-Afghan dialogue\u201d<\/strong>: Under it, leaders stressed the need to ensure peace, stability and order in Afghanistan. They also condemned the terrorist attacks at the Hamid Karzai International Airport.<\/p>\n<p>In the declaration, they called for <strong>addressing the humanitarian situation<\/strong> in Afghanistan. They urged the need to uphold the rights of women, children and minorities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>International System: <\/strong>BRICS countries pledged \u201cto promote a more inclusive, equitable and representative multipolar international system with the <strong>United Nations<\/strong> at its center.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Post-Covid Global Recovery: <\/strong>Indian PM urged for BRICS cooperation under the motto of <strong>&#8216;Build-back Resiliently, Innovatively, Credibly and sustainably&#8217;.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It stressed the need for accelerating:<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8216;Build-back&#8217; <\/strong>by enhancing speed and accessibility of vaccination.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8216;Resilience\u2019 <\/strong>by diversifying pharma and vaccine production capacities beyond the developed world.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fostering &#8216;innovation&#8217;<\/strong> by creatively using digital tools for the public good, ensuring reform of multilateral institutions to enhance their &#8216;credibility&#8217;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Promoting &#8216;sustainable&#8217;<\/strong> development by articulating a common BRICS voice on environmental and climate issues.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>About BRICS<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>It is the acronym coined for an association of five major emerging national economies that have similar economic development. The five countries are <strong>Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The acronym was <strong>first used in 2001<\/strong> by economist <strong>Jim O\u2019Neill<\/strong>. Originally, the first four were grouped as \u201c<strong>BRIC<\/strong>\u201d. In 2010, <strong>South Africa<\/strong> was officially admitted as a BRIC nation. Thus, making the current acronym <strong>BRICS<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h5><span id=\"Structure_of_BRICS\"><strong>Structure of BRICS<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>The Chairmanship of the forum is rotated annually among the members, in accordance with the acronym BRICS.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, India is holding the chairmanship of the BRICS.
