{"id":133326,"date":"2021-09-11T18:29:24","date_gmt":"2021-09-11T12:59:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=133326"},"modified":"2021-09-13T18:44:55","modified_gmt":"2021-09-13T13:14:55","slug":"scientists-peek-into-the-sun-by-estimating-magnetic-fields-using-radio-observations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/scientists-peek-into-the-sun-by-estimating-magnetic-fields-using-radio-observations\/","title":{"rendered":"Scientists peek into the Sun by estimating magnetic fields using radio observations"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h5><b>What is the News?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Indian scientists along with international collaborators have measured the magnetic field of an eruption from the Sun\u2019s atmosphere offering a rare peek to the interior of the Sun.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>About the Study<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Scientists from the<strong> Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA)<\/strong> studied the weak thermal radio emission associated with the erupted plasma for the first time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The team <strong>studied the plasma from the Coronal Mass Ejection (CME)<\/strong> that happened in 2016.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Note:<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Plasma is known as the fourth state of matter. At high temperatures, electrons are ripped from an atom\u2019s nuclei and become a plasma or an ionised state of matter.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>What did they find out?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Scientists were <strong>able to measure the polarisation of this emission<\/strong>, which is indicative of the direction in which the electric and magnetic components of the waves oscillate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>About Coronal Mass Ejections(CME)<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Coronal Mass Ejection(CME) <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is an ejection of highly magnetised particles from the sun. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During a CME, enormous bubbles of superheated gas \u2013 called <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">plasma<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2013 are ejected from the sun.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Cause:<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The underlying cause of CMEs is not well understood. However, astronomers agree, that the sun\u2019s magnetic field plays a major role.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Where do CMEs occur? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Though CMEs can occur anywhere on the Sun, it is primarily those which originate from regions near the centre of the <strong>visible solar surface<\/strong> (called the <strong>photosphere<\/strong>) that are important for study, since they may propagate directly towards the Earth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Impact of CMEs: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When a really strong CME blows past the Earth, it can damage the electronics in satellites and disrupt radio communication networks on Earth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Source:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> This post is based on the article<\/span><b> \u201c<\/b><b>Scientists peek into the Sun by estimating magnetic fields using radio observations<\/b><b>\u201d <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">published in<\/span><b> PIB<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on <\/span><b>9th September 2021.<\/b><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is the News?
