Recently, a new island has been discovered off the coast of Greenland.<\/p>\n
The newly discovered island measures 60\u00d730 metres. It is three metres above sea level and has now become the new northernmost piece of land on Earth. Before this, Oodaaq<\/strong> was marked as the Earth\u2019s northernmost terrain.<\/p>\n Researchers suggested naming the new island as \u2018Qeqertaq Avannarleq<\/strong>\u2019, which is Greenlandic for \u201cthe northernmost island<\/strong>\u201d.<\/p>\n It is made up of seabed mud and moraine, i.e. soil, rock and other material. It has no vegetation.<\/p>\n Global warming has had a severe effect on the ice sheet of Greenland.
