Prime Minister has paid homage to Mahakavi Subramania Bharati on his 100th <\/span>Death Anniversary.<\/span><\/p>\n Subramania Bharati<\/b> was a poet, freedom fighter and social reformer from Tamil Nadu. He was known as <\/span>Mahakavi Bharathiyar <\/i><\/strong>which means a great poet.<\/span><\/p>\n His <\/span>songs on nationalism and freedom of India<\/span> helped to rally the masses to support the Indian Independence Movement in Tamil Nadu.<\/span><\/p>\n Examples:<\/b> \u201c<\/span><\/i>Kannan Pattu<\/strong>\u201d \u201cNilavum Vanminum Katrum<\/strong>\u201d \u201cPanchali Sabatham<\/strong>\u201d \u201cKuyil Pattu<\/strong>\u201d <\/span>are examples of Bharathi\u2019s great poetic output. He also published the sensational \u201c<\/span>Sudesa Geethangal<\/i><\/strong>\u201d in 1908.<\/span><\/p>\n He began his career as a journalist and as a sub-editor in <\/span>\u201cSwadesamitran<\/strong>\u201d<\/span><\/i> in 1904.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n He edited and <\/strong><\/span>published<\/strong> the weekly journal “<\/span>India”<\/strong>, <\/span><\/i>which was the first paper in Tamil Nadu to publish political cartoons. <\/span>He also published and edited a few other journals like \u201cVijaya<\/strong>\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n Bharati was against the caste system. He declared that there were only two castes<\/strong>-men and women and nothing more than that.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n He condemned certain Shastras that denigrate women.
