We need to identify and overcome the problems.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Introduction<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Regarding two-wheeler electrification in India, things are in the right direction.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\"> And their sales in India are likely to at least double in 2021 compared with 2020 levels.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">But even if that happens, Electric 2-Wheelers (E2Ws) will account for less than 1% of new two-wheeler sales. \u00a0 This is due to the fact that most of the industry leaders in the two-wheeler segment are showing reluctance in offering electric vehicles.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><strong>What is the present scenario wrt E2Ws in India?<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Presently, several things are going right for the electric two wheeler electrification in India.<\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><strong>First,<\/strong> the government has increased the FAME-II incentives for electric two-wheelers (E2W) to \u20b915,000\/kWh. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><strong>Second,<\/strong> more States such as Gujarat\u00a0and Maharashtra have announced\u00a0State-level electric vehicle incentives\u00a0as part of their\u00a0state\u00a0policies.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><strong>Third,<\/strong>\u00a0many startups are launching new\u00a0electric two-wheeler models.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Despite all that, two wheeler manufacturers are dsiplaying hesitance in pushing E2Ws in the market.<\/p>\n<h5><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">How we can overcome\u00a0reluctance?<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">We can overcome this problem in two ways. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><strong>E<\/strong><b>stablish a zero\u00a0emission vehicles (ZEV) credit\u00a0programme.<\/b><\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0This requires manufacturers of vehicles to ensure that either a\u00a0certain fraction of their sales are\u00a0ZEVs or that they purchase ZEV credits from manufacturers who have\u00a0sold more ZEVs than required by the\u00a0credit\u00a0programme.\u00a0India can set up such\u00a0programme\u00a0through regulatory approaches.
