India generates a huge amount of keratin waste each year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These wastes are dumped, buried, used for landfilling or incinerated. This leads to increased environmental hazards, pollution and threat to public health and increasing greenhouse gas emissions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>What is the potential use of Keratin waste?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Keratin waste are inexpensive <strong>sources of amino acids and protein<\/strong>. Hence, it can be used as animal feed and fertiliser.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>What have the Indian Scientists developed?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Indian Scientists have developed a method that can easily convert keratin waste into fertiliser and animal feed.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The method\u00a0uses <strong>advanced oxidation<\/strong> for the conversion of the waste to marketable fertilisers and animal feed. The key technology behind this involves <strong>pre-treatment<\/strong> followed by <strong>hydrolysis<\/strong> of keratin using a technique called <strong>Hydrodynamic Cavitation<\/strong>, which involves vaporization, bubble generation, and bubble implosion in a flowing liquid.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This method is almost <strong>three times more economical<\/strong> than the existing technologies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is also easily scalable, environment-friendly and would make amino acid-rich liquid fertilizers more economical as compared to currently marketed products.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This post is based on the article<\/span><b> \u201c<\/b><b>A new method developed to convert poultry feather &amp; wool waste to animal feed &amp; fertilizer<\/b><b>\u201d <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">published in <\/span><b>PIB <\/b>on <b>16th September 2021.<\/b><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is the News?
