Recently United Nations released report\u00a0titled\u00a0United in Science 2021\u00a0with the help of WMO, UNEP, WHO, IPCC\u00a0etc,.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As per the report,\u00a0the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic caused only a temporary\u00a0reduction\u00a0in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions last year\u00a0while concentrations of major greenhouse gases in the atmosphere continued to increase.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What are the findings of the report?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>\n

First,<\/span><\/b>\u00a0Global emissions in the power and industry sectors were at the same level or higher in January-July 2021 than in the same period in 2019. Emissions from road transport remained about five per cent lower.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Second,<\/span><\/b>\u00a0Global mean sea levels rose 20 cm from 1900 to 2018.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Third,<\/span><\/b>\u00a0Heat-related mortality and work impairment, caused by rising temperatures\u00a0led to loss in working hours.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Fourth<\/span><\/b>,\u00a0High latitude regions and the Sahel are likely to be wetter over 2021\u20132025, than the recent past.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Fifth,<\/span><\/b>\u00a0average global temperature for the past five years was among the highest on record.\u00a0In the next five years,\u00a0temperatures\u00a0might\u00a0temporarily breach the threshold of 1.5 degrees Celsius above the pre-industrial era.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Sixth<\/span><\/b>,\u00a0the disruption to our climate and our planet\u00a0have\u00a0become worse\u00a0and it is moving faster than predicted. An urgent climate action is needed.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What are the recommendations?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>\n

Countries need to\u00a0develop long-term strategies consistent with the 2015 Paris Agreement.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Net-zero commitments needed to be translated into strong near-term policies and action.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
