It is a two-storey architectural marvel excavated in the ninth century. It is considered as the largest and finest of the <strong>Jain caves<\/strong> at the Ellora site.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>What are Ellora Caves?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><b>Ellora Caves<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a <strong>UNESCO World Heritage Site<\/strong> located in the <strong>Aurangabad district<\/strong> of <strong>Maharashtra<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The cave consists of <strong>34 monasteries and temples<\/strong> devoted to <strong>Buddhism, Hinduism and Jainism<\/strong>. This illustrates the spirit of tolerance that was characteristic of ancient India.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Among the 34 monasteries and temples, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">17 belong to Hinduism, 12 to Buddhism and 5 to Jainism.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Caves related to Hinduism: <\/strong>The prominent caves of the Brahmanical group are <strong>Cave 15<\/strong> (Dasavatara, or Cave of Ten Incarnations), <strong>Cave 16<\/strong> (Kailasa, the largest monolithic temple), <strong>Cave 21<\/strong> (Ramesvara), and <strong>Cave 29<\/strong> (Dumar Lena).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Caves related to Buddhism<\/strong>: Amongst the caves of the Buddhist group, <strong>Cave 10<\/strong> (Visvakarma or Sutar-ki-jhopdi, the Carpenter\u2019s cave) and<strong> Cave 12<\/strong> (Teen Tal, or three-storied monastery) are particularly important.
