Recently,\u00a0<\/span>United Nations International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD)<\/span><\/b> published report \u00a0\u201c<\/span>Transforming Food Systems for Rural Prosperity<\/span><\/b>\u201d. <\/span><\/p>\n

As per the report,\u00a0our global\u00a0food system need revolution.\u00a0Transforming global food systems to become more inclusive, fair and sustainable is a challenging task. But, with concrete actions taken by the\u00a0policymakers, this is possible.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What are the other findings of the report?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>\n

First<\/span><\/b>,\u00a0we need\u00a0government investment in rural farms and local small- and medium-size enterprises. They\u00a0support\u00a0activities after the farm gate, such as storing, processing, marketing and food distribution.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Second<\/span><\/b>,\u00a0small-scale family farmers are\u00a0the foundation of\u00a0food supply across all low- and middle-income countries. They play a critical role in reducing rural poverty and ensuring national food and nutrition security.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Third<\/span><\/b>, we need\u00a0productive, economically viable and environmentally sustainable small-scale family farming.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Fourth<\/span><\/b>,\u00a0small-scale agriculture\u00a0is a vital source of national and global food.\u00a0\u00a0They are\u00a0also the source of the livelihood for majority of the people in rural areas.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Fifth,<\/span><\/b>\u00a0we need to\u00a0make\u00a0food markets accessible to villagers.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Sixth,<\/span><\/b> food systems are responsible for 37% of greenhouse gas emissions and are also highly vulnerable to a changing climate.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What are the recommendations of the report?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>\n

First,<\/span><\/b>\u00a0reward farmers for ecosystem services such as maintaining healthy soil and regulating pests and incentives for nature-based practices and local, healthy diet.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Second,<\/span><\/b> we need innovation in nature-based solutions, agro-ecology and affordable digital technologies to boost production of rural small-scale farmers. The measures will enable the cultivators to be climate-resilient employing low-carbon and sustainable techniques.<\/span><\/p>\n

Third,<\/span><\/b> developing and\u00a0focussing\u00a0on pricing systems that reflect the full and true cost of production.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Fourth<\/span><\/b>, shifting food systems towards circular resource use<\/a><\/strong><\/span> for sustainability and resilience.<\/span><\/p>\n
