In FY20, the amount was Rs 1.81 trillion and in FY19 it was Rs 64,539 crore.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, RBI did not allow <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Banks to<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> sell loans classified as fraud to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">asset reconstruction companies (ARCs).<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>What has changed now?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">RBI has now permitted Banks to transfer the loans that have been classified as fraud to the ARCs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But the transfer of such loans d<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">oes not absolve the lender from fixing the staff accountability as required under the extant instructions on frauds.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>Significance of this decision<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This opens up significant opportunities not just for banks but also for asset reconstruction companies who could probably buy these assets at a greater discount than regular bad loans.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But there is also a possibility that the ARCs may not show much interest<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> because the resolution of loan accounts tagged as frauds is very difficult.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Source<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: This post is based on the article <\/span><b>\u201d<\/b><b>RBI permits lenders to sell fraud loans to ARCs, paves way for resolution\u201d <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">p<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ublished in <\/span><b>Business Standard <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">on <\/span><b>25th September 2021.<\/b><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is the News?
