{"id":137022,"date":"2021-09-25T20:03:53","date_gmt":"2021-09-25T14:33:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=137022"},"modified":"2021-09-29T14:37:38","modified_gmt":"2021-09-29T09:07:38","slug":"china-says-all-crypto-related-transactions-are-illegal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/china-says-all-crypto-related-transactions-are-illegal\/","title":{"rendered":"China says all crypto-related transactions are illegal"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h5><b>What is the News?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">China has said that all crypto currency transactions in China, including transactions using Bitcoin, will be deemed illegal.<\/span><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<h5><b>China and Cryptocurrency<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">China has been one of the world&#8217;s largest crypto-currency markets.This is despite the fact that trading in crypto-currency has officially been banned in China since 2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, the recent announcement by China&#8217;s<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> central bank that all cryptocurrency-related transactions are illegal and must be banned sends the strongest signal yet on its determination to crack down on cryptocurrency.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But for now, it seems that holding Bitcoin or any other cryptocurrency is not illegal in China. <strong>Only their use is illegal<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>Why is China cracking down on Cryptocurrency?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><b>No Legal Backing: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin are not backed by any government or bank. Hence, they cannot be used as legal tender.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Harmful to Environment:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> China considers crypto-currencies harmful to the environment because bitcoin mining requires a lot of computing resources and that in turn increases power use. There are reports noting that the entire power consumption of computers and server farms used to mine Bitcoin exceeds the power use of a country like Switzerland.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>To stop Illegal activities: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cryptocurrencies bypasses official institutions and the anonymity that it offers makes it a flourishing business for illegal activities.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>To avoid Financial Risk: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies cannot be traced by a country\u2019s central bank, making them difficult to regulate. Hence, China has acted on cryptocurrencies to prevent and control financial risks.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>To launch its own Digital Currency: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">China is planning to introduce its own digital currency.
