First<\/b><\/em>,<\/em> agriculture and its allied activities in FY21 contributed 20.2% to the Gross Value Addition (GVA) of India. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Second<\/b><\/em>,<\/em> food grain production is the primary livelihood source for nearly 55% of the population. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Third<\/b><\/em>,<\/em> it\u00a0also contributes to the supply base of\u00a0agri-based industries such as\u00a0cotton, sugar, vegetable oil, tea etc.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Fourth<\/b><\/em>, it provides market support to\u00a0agri-dependent\u00a0industries like fertilizers, tractors etc. India is amongst the 15 leading exporters of\u00a0agricultural products worldwide.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Fifth<\/em>,<\/span><\/b>\u00a0the agricultural sector helps provide employment,\u00a0leads to mitigation of poverty and reducing inequalities by providing income\u00a0generation and means of livelihood.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What are the key reasons for the rise in production?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A close to normal monsoon, irrigation, aggressive implementation of MGNREGA,\u00a0crop insurance availability, uninterrupted supply of fertilizers and efficient sowing\u00a0activities are some of the key reasons.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What do the latest estimates\u00a0represent?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A reviving\u00a0rural economy will help\u00a0protect\u00a0the Indian economy<\/strong> and drive the\u00a0country back onto the economic recovery track. <\/span><\/p>\n

Improving rural prospects will\u00a0stimulate consumer demand<\/strong> for FMCG products, light motor vehicles, telecom\u00a0products etc. <\/span><\/p>\n

Increased income<\/strong> in the hands of the rural population will lead to\u00a0higher consumption<\/strong> resulting in increased production levels and higher capacity\u00a0utilization.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In terms of inflation, rising\u00a0food\u00a0grain production will help bring down\u00a0consumer price inflation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Can rural economy consolidation happen?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>\n

Consolidation of rural economy can be achieved through structural reforms, especially with the implementation of farm reform laws. <\/span><\/p>\n

The strengthening of rural supply chains such as cold chains and refrigerated transportation, building of warehousing facilities, promoting of agro-based industries such as food processing industries, etc. will help build momentum. <\/span><\/p>\n
