– <\/strong>560\u200a projects have an average time overrun of 46.94 months.<\/p>\n

Why are the projects delayed?<\/strong><\/h5>\n

The following factors have resulted in delays:<\/p>\n

– <\/strong>Localized curbs<\/p>\n

– <\/strong>Lack of infrastructure support and linkages<\/p>\n

– <\/strong>Land acquisition delays<\/p>\n

– <\/strong>Forest and\u200a environment\u200a clearances<\/p>\n

– <\/strong>Delayed tendering,\u200alaw and order\u200a problems<\/p>\n

– <\/strong>Inadequate manpower<\/p>\n

What needs to be done?<\/strong><\/h5>\n

The following key steps need to be taken:<\/p>\n

– <\/strong>Improved management of infrastructure projects, including strengthening of internal processes to build in-house project management capabilities<\/p>\n

– <\/strong>Enhanced stake-holder management for land acquisition<\/p>\n

– <\/strong>Obtaining regulatory approvals, a dispute resolution mechanism in the public-private partnership model<\/p>\n

– <\/strong>Establishment of robust project governance<\/p>\n

What is the way forward?<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Infrastructure creation plays a key role in economic development. Land is a state subject, and it is important that the Centre and States work together<\/strong> to make land acquisition a smooth and seamless procedure for investors.<\/p>\n

The process of granting environmental clearances needs to be more efficient and transparent.<\/strong> Time-bound clearances and implementation norms should be adhered to by all. Senior officials should be made accountable.<\/p>\n
