So far, two editions have been released in the past and this is the third edition of the State of Education Report.<\/p>\n<p>The UNESCO analysed two data sets for the preparation of the report. These are the <a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/education-minister-releases-report-on-united-district-information-system-for-education-plusudise-2019-20\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE+)<\/strong><\/a> 2018-19 round and the <a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/periodic-labour-force-survey-and-unemployment-in-india\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Periodic Labour Force Survey<\/strong><\/a> <strong>2018-19<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h5>What are the key findings of the State of the Education Report (SOER) 2021?<\/h5>\n<figure id=\"attachment_139450\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-139450\" style=\"width: 484px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-139450 \" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/State-of-the-Education-Report.png?resize=484%2C184&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"UNESCO's SOER 2021\" width=\"484\" height=\"184\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/State-of-the-Education-Report.png?w=1056&amp;ssl=1 1056w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/State-of-the-Education-Report.png?resize=300%2C114&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/State-of-the-Education-Report.png?resize=1024%2C390&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/State-of-the-Education-Report.png?resize=768%2C292&amp;ssl=1 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 484px) 100vw, 484px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-139450\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: UNESCO<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Lack of teachers<\/strong>: The data suggests that the teaching cadre is generally young, with over 65% of teachers aged less than 44 years. But, in about 15 years, 27% of the current workforce will need to be replaced. The workforce has a <strong>deficit of over 1 million teachers<\/strong> (at current student strength).<\/p>\n<p>Apart from that, almost, 69% of teachers in India are working without job contracts in private schools.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_139453\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-139453\" style=\"width: 405px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-139453\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/SOER-21.png?resize=405%2C269&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"SOER 21\" width=\"405\" height=\"269\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/SOER-21.png?w=775&amp;ssl=1 775w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/SOER-21.png?resize=300%2C199&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/SOER-21.png?resize=768%2C510&amp;ssl=1 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 405px) 100vw, 405px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-139453\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: UNESCO<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Poor student-teacher ratio: <\/strong>The overall number of teachers (around 9.5 million) looks perfect to maintain a good pupil-teacher ratio. But there is a segmental disparity. For instance, the pupil-teacher ratio (PTR) at senior secondary schools is 47:1 as against 26:1 of the overall school system.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Prevalence of single-teacher institutions<\/strong>: At the national level, 7% of schools are single-teacher schools, the percentage is far higher in several states. Around <strong>10% to 15% of schools<\/strong> in several states were <strong>single-teacher institutions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Prevalence of under-qualified teachers<\/strong>: 7.7% of teachers in pre-primary, 4.6% at the primary level and 3.3% upper-primary are under-qualified.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Women make half of the teacher workforce<\/strong>: Half of India\u2019s 9.43 million school teachers are women. In some states and union territories (UTs) over 70% of teachers are women.
