The\u00a0<\/span>Union Minister\u00a0for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying\u00a0<\/span><\/b>has launched a national level<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/b>River Ranching program\u00a0in UP.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

At the same time, other 4 states namely, Uttarakhand, Orissa, Tripura and Chhattisgarh also participated nationwide River Ranching program launching.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What is river ranching?<\/span><\/b><\/h5>\n

River ranching<\/span><\/b>\u00a0is a form of\u00a0<\/span>aquaculture\u00a0<\/span><\/b>in which a population of a fish species is held in captivity for the first stage of their lives, then released, and later harvested as adults.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What is the river ranching programme?<\/b><\/h5>\n

\u201c<\/span>River ranching\u00a0programme<\/span><\/b>\u201d<\/span>\u00a0is introduced as special activity under\u00a0<\/span>PMMSY (Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana) <\/span><\/b>scheme for augmenting and enhancing the fish production and productivity through expansion, intensification, diversification and productive utilization of land and water.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Nodal Agency\u00a0<\/span><\/b>-Department of Fisheries has designated National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB)<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, Hyderabad as the Nodal Agency<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This program is\u00a0<\/span>under\u00a0<\/span><\/b>Central Sector component of\u00a0<\/span>PMMSY for implementing River Ranching across the Country.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As a\u00a0<\/span>Phase \u2013I\u00a0programme<\/span><\/b>\u00a0NFDB during 2020-21 has targeted\u00a0<\/span>three major river systems<\/span><\/b>\u00a0namely\u00a0<\/span>Ganges\u00a0<\/span><\/b>and its tributaries,\u00a0<\/span>Brahmaputra &\u00a0Barak<\/span><\/b>\u00a0river\u00a0tributaries and\u00a0<\/span>Mahanadi & other rivers<\/span><\/b>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What is the need of this program?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>\n

With growing human population, the requirement of high-quality protein, the demand of fish is gradually increasing.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What are the potential benefits of the program?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>\n

For ecosystem<\/span><\/b>-River Ranching Program can achieve<\/span>\u00a0sustainable fisheries<\/span><\/b>, reducing habitat degradation, conserving biodiversity, maximizing social-economic benefits and assessing ecosystem services.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For fishing community<\/span><\/b>-It also ensures the upgradation of traditional fishery, ecosystem sustainability and trade & social protection of Inland communities.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It would maintain the\u00a0<\/span>cleanliness\u00a0<\/span><\/b>of the river as they feed on organic remnants.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
