{"id":1407,"date":"2017-06-12T11:39:13","date_gmt":"2017-06-12T11:39:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=1407"},"modified":"2017-06-18T09:22:57","modified_gmt":"2017-06-18T09:22:57","slug":"multidimentional-poverty-index","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/multidimentional-poverty-index\/","title":{"rendered":"What is MULTIDIMENTIONAL POVERTY INDEX?"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li>The MPI is the product of two numbers: the Headcount H or percentage of people who are poor and the average intensity of deprivation A \u2013 which reflects the proportion of dimensions in which households are, on average deprived.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The criterion for someone to be declared as deprived as per MPI are as follows:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Education (year of schooling, child enrollment): Each indicator is equally weighted at 1\/6.<\/li>\n<li>Health (child mortality, nutrition): Each indicator is equally weighted at 1\/6.<\/li>\n<li>Standard of living (electricity, drinking water, sanitation, flooring, cooking fuel, assets): Each indicator is equally weighted at 1\/18.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>In terms of countries, India accounts for both the highest and a staggering number of multi-dimensionally poor people.<\/li>\n<li>Sadly, more than 528 million (52.8 crore) Indians are poor, which is more people than all the poor people living in Sub-Saharan Africa combined.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Nearly 31% (217 million) out of the 689 million poor children all over the globe live in India.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The MPI is the product of two numbers: the Headcount H or percentage of people who are poor and the average intensity of deprivation A \u2013 which reflects the proportion of dimensions in which households are, on average deprived.
