Recently, the British Prime Minister and Indian Prime Minister had a meeting. The meeting occurred a few weeks ahead of a United Nations climate change summit in the U.K.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, the British PM urged India to update India\u2019s NDC (Nationally Determined Contribution) targets, besides they also talked about vaccine certifications and the Afghanistan situation.<\/p>\n

What are the key discussions of the meeting?<\/b><\/h5>\n
Updating the NDCs<\/h6>\n

Being president of COP-26 of UNFCCC,\u00a0the U.K. is asking all\u00a0countries to update their\u00a0NDCs to reflect climate targets\u00a0for the next few decades.<\/span> One hundred and ninety three countries filed their first NDCs, but only 19 have so far updated<\/strong> them.<\/p>\n

India filed its first NDC in 2016, committing at the time to cut emissions by 33% by 2030 (from 2005 levels). However, the U.K. and the U.S. have been asking India to do more in terms of declaring its second NDC.<\/p>\n

They expect India\u2019s promise of installing 450 GW<\/strong> of renewable energy by 2030, and to declare firm deadlines for achieving Net Zero carbon emissions<\/strong> and ending the use of coal<\/strong> for generating electricity, to keep global warming below 1.5 degrees Celsius.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Both nations agreed on the importance of \u201ccautiously opening up international travel\u201d, and the issue of vaccine certification.<\/p>\n

Both sides\u00a0on Afghanistan crisis\u00a0agreed on the need to\u00a0develop a common international\u00a0perspective on issues\u00a0regarding extremism and\u00a0terrorism, as well as Human\u00a0Rights and rights of women\u00a0and minorities.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
