The \u201c<\/span>Kunming Declaration<\/span><\/b>\u201d was adopted by over 100 countries in\u00a0the ongoing virtual <\/span>15th<\/span><\/b> meeting of the Conference of the Parties (<\/span>COP<\/span><\/b>) to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity<\/a> (<\/strong><\/span><\/span>UNCBD<\/b>)<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span>theme<\/span><\/b> of the COP-15 is \u201c<\/span>Ecological Civilization<\/span><\/b>: Building a Shared Future for All Life on Earth\u201d.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

COP15 is being held to review the achievement and delivery of the CBD\u2019s Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020.<\/strong><\/p>\n

What are the key points in Kunming Declaration?<\/strong><\/h5>\n

It calls upon the parties to <\/span>\u201cmainstream\u201d <\/span><\/b>biodiversity protection in decision-making and recognise the importance of conservation in protecting human health.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

They should ensure that the <\/span>post-pandemic recovery<\/span><\/b> plans contribute to the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity, promoting sustainable and inclusive development.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The declaration expects signatory nations to <\/span>synchronize <\/span><\/b>Biodiversity plans with the three UN decades program which are on \u2018Sustainable Development\u2019, \u2018Ecosystem Restoration\u2019, ‘Ocean Science for Sustainable Development’.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
