{"id":141617,"date":"2021-10-18T19:00:44","date_gmt":"2021-10-18T13:30:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=141617"},"modified":"2021-10-22T12:36:30","modified_gmt":"2021-10-22T07:06:30","slug":"china-tested-nuclear-capable-hypersonic-missile-says-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/china-tested-nuclear-capable-hypersonic-missile-says-report\/","title":{"rendered":"China tested \u2018nuclear capable hypersonic missile\u2019, says report"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h5><b>What is the News?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">China\u2019s military has carried out its first-ever test of a \u201cnuclear capable hypersonic missile\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>What is a Hypersonic Missile?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hypersonic speeds are those that exceed five times the speed of sound, that is, anything that can move at speeds of Mach 5 or above, which means at least 1.6 km per second.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Types of Hypersonic Missiles: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are two types of hypersonic missiles.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Hypersonic cruise missiles:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> These are the ones that use rocket or jet propellant through their flight and are regarded as being just faster versions of existing cruise missiles.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Hypersonic glide vehicle (HGV) missiles<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: This is the one that China has tested. They are launched on rockets and then orbit the earth at their own speed. They are difficult to track because, unlike ballistic missiles, they \u201cdo not follow the fixed parabolic trajectory\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Note: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Countries like the US, Russia and China are developing hypersonic glide vehicles.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>What about India?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India too is working on hypersonic technologies. In September 2020, DRDO has successfully flight-tested the <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/drdo-successfully-tests-hypersonic-technology-demonstrator-vehicle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hypersonic Technology Demonstrator Vehicle(HSTDV)<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with a capability to travel at 6 times the speed of sound.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In December 2020 an advanced <strong>Hypersonic Wind Tunnel<\/strong> (HWT) test facility of the DRDO was inaugurated in Hyderabad.
