{"id":141838,"date":"2021-10-19T19:28:42","date_gmt":"2021-10-19T13:58:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=141838"},"modified":"2021-10-19T19:28:42","modified_gmt":"2021-10-19T13:58:42","slug":"jk-accession-files-disclosure-of-bucher-papers-in-national-interest-observes-cic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/jk-accession-files-disclosure-of-bucher-papers-in-national-interest-observes-cic\/","title":{"rendered":"J&#038;K Accession files: Disclosure of Bucher papers in &#8216;national interest&#8217;, observes CIC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Source:<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This post is based on the article<\/span><b> \u201c<\/b><b>J&amp;K Accession files: Disclosure of Bucher papers in &#8216;national interest&#8217;, observes CIC<\/b><b>\u201d <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">published in<\/span><b> India Today on 19th October 2021.<\/b><\/p>\n<h5><b>What is the News?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <strong>Central Information Commission(CIC)<\/strong> has observed in an order that the disclosure of Bucher papers is in the National Interest.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, the commission stopped short of ordering the disclosure of the documents, which are withheld under the directions of the External Affairs Ministry.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>What are Bucher Papers?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bucher Papers are related to the period of 1947-49 and may throw light on the Accession of Jammu and Kashmir(J&amp;K).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The papers are named after <strong>General Sir Francis Robert Roy Bucher,<\/strong> who served as the second chief of the Indian Army between January 1, 1948, to January 15, 1949.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These papers were compiled by General Bucher and given to the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library(NMML).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, NMML has kept these documents closed from public scrutiny even after 70 years on the instructions of the External Affairs Ministry.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>About Nehru Memorial Museum &amp; Library (NMML)<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NMML is an autonomous institution under the<strong> Ministry of Culture<\/strong>, Government of India. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was established in 1964 in the memory of the First Prime Minister (PM) of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru (1889 &#8211; 1964).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The museum is <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">dedicated to the objective of promoting advanced research on Modern and Contemporary India.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The museum has<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> four major constituents, namely, a Memorial Museum, a library on modern India, a Centre for Contemporary Studies and the Nehru Planetarium.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The museum is<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> located in the Teen Murti House, Delhi (the official residence of the first PM).<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: This post is based on the article \u201cJ&amp;K Accession files: Disclosure of Bucher papers in &#8216;national interest&#8217;, observes CIC\u201d published in India Today on 19th October 2021.
