What is the News?<\/b><\/h5>\n

The Central Information Commission(CIC)<\/strong> has observed in an order that the disclosure of Bucher papers is in the National Interest.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, the commission stopped short of ordering the disclosure of the documents, which are withheld under the directions of the External Affairs Ministry.<\/span><\/p>\n

What are Bucher Papers?<\/b><\/h5>\n

Bucher Papers are related to the period of 1947-49 and may throw light on the Accession of Jammu and Kashmir(J&K).<\/span><\/p>\n

The papers are named after General Sir Francis Robert Roy Bucher,<\/strong> who served as the second chief of the Indian Army between January 1, 1948, to January 15, 1949.<\/span><\/p>\n

These papers were compiled by General Bucher and given to the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library(NMML).<\/span><\/p>\n

However, NMML has kept these documents closed from public scrutiny even after 70 years on the instructions of the External Affairs Ministry.<\/span><\/p>\n

About Nehru Memorial Museum & Library (NMML)<\/b><\/h5>\n

NMML is an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Culture<\/strong>, Government of India. <\/span>It was established in 1964 in the memory of the First Prime Minister (PM) of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru (1889 – 1964).<\/span><\/p>\n

The museum is <\/span>dedicated to the objective of promoting advanced research on Modern and Contemporary India.<\/span><\/p>\n

The museum has<\/span> four major constituents, namely, a Memorial Museum, a library on modern India, a Centre for Contemporary Studies and the Nehru Planetarium.<\/span><\/p>\n
