Allium is one of the largest genera in <\/span>Amaryllidaceae<\/span>, a family of herbaceous, mainly perennial and bulbous flowering plants.<\/span><\/p>\n The genus has about 1,100 species distributed worldwide, including onion, garlic, scallion, shallot and chives.<\/span><\/p>\n The genus naturally occurs in dry seasons in the Northern Hemisphere and South Africa.<\/span><\/p>\n The Indian Allium is distributed in different eco-geographical areas of the temperate and alpine regions of the Himalayas.<\/span><\/p>\n The Indian Himalayan region has two distinct centers of Allium diversity, the <\/span>Western Himalaya (over 85% of total diversity)<\/b> and the <\/span>Eastern Himalaya (6%),<\/b> covering the alpine-sub temperate region.<\/span><\/p>\n The specific name of <\/span>Allium negianum<\/span><\/i> honors Dr. Kuldeep Singh Negi, an eminent explorer and <\/span>Allium<\/span><\/i> collector from India<\/span><\/p>\n This plant <\/span>is restricted to the region of the Western Himalayas<\/strong>.
