Scientists have discovered a new species of beetle named Trigonopterus corona on the <\/span>Indonesian island of Sulawesi.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

Note:<\/b> It is not the only insect species to be named after the pandemic. In April 2021, a new species of caddisfly (a moth-like insect) was collected near a stream in Kosovo and named <\/span>Potamophylax coronavirus<\/i><\/b>.<\/b><\/p>\n

T<\/span><\/i>rigonopterus<\/span><\/i> is a genus of flightless weevils placed in the <\/span>Cryptorhynchinae<\/span> of <\/span>Curculionidae<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Note:<\/b> Weevils are beetles, known for their elongated snouts. They are usually small and herbivorous. Many weevils are considered pests because of their ability to damage and kill crops.<\/span><\/p>\n

Habitat: <\/b>Trigonopterus species are<\/span> distributed in <\/span>Australia<\/span>, <\/span>Indonesia<\/span> and <\/span>Melanesia<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Significance: <\/b>Trigonopterus <\/span><\/i>inhabit primary tropical forests, both on foliage and edaphic in the litter layer. They have a marked tendency to endemism, with many species only known from a single locality.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
