Director-General of<\/span> Indian Coast Guard (ICG<\/span><\/a>) has commissioned the indigenously built Indian Coast Guard Ship \u2018Sarthak\u2019 at a ceremony held in Goa.<\/span><\/p>\n ICGS Sarthak is an indigenously built <\/span>Offshore Patrol Vessel<\/strong>(OPV) by the Goa Shipyard Limited.<\/span><\/p>\n Note:<\/b> Offshore patrol vessels(OPVs) are patrolling vehicles that are deployed by Indian coast guards to patrol the maritime boundary of India.<\/span><\/p>\n What are the key features of ICGS Sarthak?<\/b><\/p>\n Firstly,<\/b> the vessel is fitted with state-of-the-art equipment, machinery, sensors and weapons which enable it to undertake duties such as search and rescue, combating maritime crimes and preserving & protecting the marine environment.<\/span><\/p>\n Secondly,<\/b> it is capable of carrying a twin-engine helicopter, four high-speed boats and one inflatable boat for swift boarding and Search & Rescue operations.<\/span><\/p>\n Thirdly, <\/b>it is also capable of carrying limited pollution response equipment to undertake oil spill pollution response at sea.<\/span><\/p>\n The vessel will be based at Porbandar (Gujarat) and operate on India\u2019s Western Seaboard.<\/span><\/p>\n It will be deployed extensively for EEZ surveillance, Coastal Security and other duties as enshrined in the Coast Guard charter of duties, to safeguard the maritime interests of the Nation.<\/span><\/p>\n Source:<\/b> This post is based on the article <\/span>\u201c<\/b>Indian Coast Guard Ship \u2018Sarthak\u2019 dedicated to the Nation<\/b>\u201d <\/b>published in<\/span> PIB on 28th October 2021.<\/b><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" What is the News?
