Scientists had predicted that a solar flare will arrive at the Earth in the early hours of November 4.The magnitude of this flare would be such as to trigger spectacular displays of aurora (the coloured bands of light seen in the North and South poles) in the high-latitude and polar regions. This prediction seems to have come true as people from several countries were tweeting pictures of aurorae.<\/span><\/p>\n Click Here to Read about Auroras<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n Sunspots:<\/b> These are areas that appear dark on the surface of the Sun because they are cooler than other parts of the Sun\u2019s surface.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Why are sunspots relatively cool? <\/b>It\u2019s because they form in areas where magnetic fields are particularly strong. These magnetic fields are so strong that they keep some of the heat within the Sun from reaching the surface.<\/span><\/p>\n The magnetic field lines near sunspots often tangle, cross, and reorganize.
