It contains debris that <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">originated from a small comet called <strong>55P\/Tempel-Tuttle<\/strong> in the constellation <strong>Leo<\/strong>, which takes 33 years to orbit the sun.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Every 33 years, a Leonid shower turns into a meteor storm, which is when hundreds to thousands of meteors can be seen every hour.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Leonids <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are also called <strong>fireballs<\/strong> and earthgrazer meteors. Fireballs, because of their bright colors and earthgazer because they streak close to the horizon.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Moreover, Leonids meteors showers are also some of the fastest that are seen on Earth travelling at speeds of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">71 km per second.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>What is a Meteor Shower?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When Earth encounters many meteoroids at once, we call it a meteor shower.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Can meteor showers inflict damage? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The vast majority of meteors burn up long before they hit the ground, posing no threat to property or people.
