{"id":146488,"date":"2021-11-13T20:13:36","date_gmt":"2021-11-13T14:43:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=146488"},"modified":"2021-11-17T13:44:56","modified_gmt":"2021-11-17T08:14:56","slug":"indian-astronomers-develop-methodology-to-understand-the-exoplanets-accurately","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/indian-astronomers-develop-methodology-to-understand-the-exoplanets-accurately\/","title":{"rendered":"Indian astronomers develop methodology to understand the Exoplanets accurately"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h5><b>What is the News?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Indian astronomers have developed a methodology named \u201c<\/span><b>critical noise treatment algorithm\u201d. <\/b>This<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> algorithm can help understand exoplanets accurately by reducing the contamination by the Earth\u2019s atmosphere and the disturbances due to instrumental effects and other factors.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>What are Exoplanets?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Exoplanets are <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">planets that orbit a star other than the Sun. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The first confirmation of detection of exoplanets occurred in 1992.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>Why study exoplanets?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Astronomers study the physical properties of exoplanets with extreme accuracy as it can help them to explore the ones that could be similar to planet Earth and hence might be habitable.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>How exoplanets are studied at present?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Astronomers at the Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Bangalore have been studying exoplanets <strong>using the ground-based optical telescopes<\/strong> available in India and the data obtained by the space telescope \u201cT<a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/nasas-planet-hunter-tess-completes-primary-mission\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ransiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite(TESS)<\/a>&#8220;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>The method used by TESS<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: It uses the photometric transit method to detect exoplanets.
