The United Kingdom has announced the launch of the <\/span>Clydebank Declaration<\/b> on Green Shipping Corridors at the COP26 conference in Glasgow.<\/span><\/p>\n The Clydebank Declaration aims to set up <\/span>green shipping corridors,<\/b> which are zero-emission maritime routes between 2 (or more) ports.<\/span><\/p>\n As part of the declaration,<\/strong> the signatory countries will support the establishment of at least six green shipping corridors by 2050.<\/span><\/p>\n Signatory countries: <\/b>Around 19 countries have signed the declaration.<\/span><\/p>\n India has not signed <\/b>the declaration yet.<\/span><\/p>\n According to the World<\/span> Economic Forum, International shipping which transports 90% of world trade accounts for about 3% of global carbon emissions.<\/span><\/p>\n Hence, without efforts to decarbonize, the sector\u2019s emissions could increase by 50% by 2050 based on the projected expansion of seaborne trade.<\/span><\/p>\n Source: <\/b>This post is based on the article <\/span>\u201cCountries at COP26 launch plan for net-zero shipping lanes\u201d <\/b>published in <\/span>TOI <\/b>on 10th November 2021.<\/b><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" What is the News?
