{"id":14810,"date":"2020-04-14T03:14:54","date_gmt":"2020-04-13T21:44:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/factly.forumias.com\/?p=14810"},"modified":"2021-04-24T11:24:25","modified_gmt":"2021-04-24T05:54:25","slug":"koundinya-wildlife-sanctuary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/koundinya-wildlife-sanctuary\/","title":{"rendered":"Koundinya Wildlife Sanctuary"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p><strong>News:<\/strong>An Asian Elephant from Koundinya Wildlife Sanctuary has been rescued by the forest officials.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Facts:<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>Kaundinya Wildlife Sanctuary is the only sanctuary in Andhra Pradesh with a population of Asian elephants.<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Vegetation:<\/strong>It is covered by southern tropical dry deciduous and thorn forests.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Asian Elephant:<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>IUCN Status: Endangered<\/li>\r\n<li>Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972: Schedule I\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Threat: <\/strong>Habitat loss, degradation and fragmentation.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Initiatives:<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li><strong>Project Elephant:<\/strong>It was launched by the Government of India in 1992 as a Centrally Sponsored Scheme for the protection of elephants, their habitats and corridors.<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Asian Elephant Specialist Group(AsESG):<\/strong>It is an integral part of the Species Survival Commission(SSC) of the IUCN to promote the long-term conservation of Asia\u2019s elephants and wherever possible,the recovery of their populations to viable levels.<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Gaj Yatra:<\/strong>It is a nationwide awareness campaign led by Wildlife Institute of India(WII)\u00a0 to celebrate elephants and highlight the necessity of securing elephant corridors.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News:An Asian Elephant from Koundinya Wildlife Sanctuary has been rescued by the forest officials.
