The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment is preparing to soon roll out a National Scheme for Comprehensive Rehabilitation of Beggars.<\/span><\/p>\n It’ll be based on the idea of dealing with beggary as a social problem and not looking at it as a criminal act<\/p>\n The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment had launched a <\/span>pilot project on the Comprehensive Rehabilitation of Persons engaged in the act of Begging.<\/b><\/p>\n The pilot project <\/span>was launched in 10 cities namely<\/b> Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Indore, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Patna and Ahmedabad.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The projects <\/span>are being implemented by <\/b>State Governments\/UTs\/Local Urban Bodies and Voluntary Organizations.<\/span><\/p>\n Several comprehensive measures taken under this project include<\/b> survey and identification of beggars, mobilization, basic hygiene and medical facilities, providing basic documentation, counselling, rehabilitation etc Based on this pilot project,<\/b> the Government is planning to launch a <\/span>National Scheme for Comprehensive Rehabilitation of Beggars.<\/span><\/p>\n This scheme will be part of the<\/span> SMILE Scheme (Support for Marginalized Individuals for Livelihood and Enterprise)<\/a><\/strong><\/em>.It <\/span>will also include a separate scheme for welfare of transgender persons.<\/span><\/p>\n Source:<\/b> This post is based on the article <\/span>\u201c<\/b>Launch of national scheme soon for rehabilitation of beggars<\/b>\u201d <\/b>published by <\/span>TOI <\/b>on 23rd Nov 2021.<\/b><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" What is the News?
