The Defence Minister has inaugurated the<\/span> Fifth World Congress on Disaster Management.<\/span><\/p>\n Organized by: <\/b>Disaster Management Initiatives and Convergence Society (DMICS)<\/span><\/p>\n Aim: <\/b>To promote interaction of science, policy, and practices to enhance understanding of risks and advance actions for reducing risks and building resilience to disasters.<\/span><\/p>\n Theme:<\/b> \u2018Technology, Finance and Capacity for Building Resilience to Disasters in the context of COVID-19\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n Firstly,<\/b> Effective response mechanisms to address humanitarian crises & natural disasters are one of the most important pillars of SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region).<\/span><\/p>\n Secondly, <\/b>India has always been a first responder in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR). It has been regularly conducting Humanitarian Aid and Disaster Relief (HADR) situations exercises to deepen the HADR co-operation.<\/span><\/p>\n Example: <\/b>Some HADR missions undertaken by India include Operation Rahat in Yemen in 2015, During a cyclone in Sri Lanka in 2016; quake in Indonesia in 2019 and Cyclone Idai in Mozambique.<\/span><\/p>\n Thirdly, <\/b>the COVID-19 pandemic has reaffirmed the \u201ccentrality of multilateralism\u201d in our interconnected world, not only for matters of international security but also disaster management.<\/span><\/p>\n Lastly,<\/b> there is a need for collective solutions to deal with global challenges in the post-COVID world.<\/span><\/p>\n Source:<\/b> This post is based on the following articles\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n What is the News?
