The exercise was completed in the case of one of them, <a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/privatisation-of-air-india-explained-pointwise\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Air India<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is the need for privatization?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Privatization is essential to <strong>redeploy public resources<\/strong> in areas such as education and healthcare.<\/p>\n<p>It helps PSUs get the benefit of <strong>additional capital<\/strong> and a clear approach to business, thereby helping the economy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PSU staff<\/strong> will be beneficiaries of it.<\/p>\n<p>A few big-ticket privatisations will convey to stakeholders about the <strong>reformist spirit<\/strong> of the economy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What are the challenges?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>PSBs have carried the burden of the NPA problem. Any potential buyer will need GoI to absorb some NPA.<\/p>\n<p>Loss-making PSUs, burdened by debt and staffed by an unionised workforce, make it tough to privatise.
