The Minister of Electronics & Information Technology has addressed the three-day workshop \u2018Aadhaar 2.0- Ushering the Next Era of Digital Identity and Smart Governance\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n The workshop was organized by the<\/span> Unique Identification Authority of India(UIDAI).<\/span><\/a> The workshop aims to <\/span>analyze the reach of Digital Identity in major reforms and schemes launched by the Government.<\/span><\/p>\n Aadhar number is a 12-digit random number issued by the UIDAI (\u201cAuthority\u201d) to the residents of India after satisfying the verification process laid down by the Authority.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Any individual, irrespective of age and gender, who is a resident of India, may voluntarily enrol to obtain an Aadhaar number.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n A person willing to enrol has to provide minimal demographic and biometric information during the enrolment process which is totally free of cost.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n An individual needs to enrol for Aadhaar only once and after de-duplication only one Aadhaar shall be generated as the uniqueness is achieved through the process of demographic and biometric de-duplication.<\/span><\/p>\n Moreover, Aadhar was<\/span> given statutory status by<\/span> the Aadhar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Act 2016.<\/span><\/p>\n Firstly,<\/b> Aadhar is increasingly being used by residents to prove their identity and for availing services under various schemes through online Aadhaar authentication.<\/span><\/p>\n Secondly<\/b>, the APB payments (Aadhar-enabled DBT payments) have increased significantly <\/span>by the government<\/span> in times of COVID.<\/span><\/p>\n Aadhaar can continue itself as one of the main enablers of identity verification in both online as well as offline mode in light of the<\/span> SWIK rules (Social welfare, Innovation and Knowledge).<\/b><\/p>\n Aadhar’s legal framework is settled with the Aadhaar Act,<\/span> Supreme Court judgement, <\/b>but for addressing privacy aspects<\/span>, Data Privacy Law Needs<\/b> to be enacted.<\/span><\/p>\n Biometrics in Aadhar can be improved using <\/span>Artificial Intelligence<\/b> and <\/span>deep learning techniques.<\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Source: <\/b>This post is based on the article \u201c\u2018Aadhaar 2.0- Ushering the Next Era of Digital Identity and Smart Governance\u2019 workshop\u201d <\/b>published in PIB <\/b>on 25th Nov 2021.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" What is the News?
