{"id":149855,"date":"2021-11-30T20:57:53","date_gmt":"2021-11-30T15:27:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=149855"},"modified":"2021-11-30T20:57:53","modified_gmt":"2021-11-30T15:27:53","slug":"new-indigenous-smart-technology-system-can-automatically-protect-power-grids-from-short-circuits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/new-indigenous-smart-technology-system-can-automatically-protect-power-grids-from-short-circuits\/","title":{"rendered":"New indigenous smart technology system can automatically protect power grids from short-circuits"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h5><b>What is the News?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Researchers from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur have indigenously developed a new system to safeguard power grids from short-circuits and prevent accidents.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>Background<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Short-circuit situations often occur in power distribution networks like power grids.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This results in huge current surges that can damage the power grids as they are not designed to handle the large surge current, which in turn cause major economic losses and disruption in the electricity supply.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>What have the Researchers developed to prevent Short-circuit situations?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Researchers have indigenously developed a prototype of a system called <strong>Smart Superconducting Fault Current Limiter (SCFLsm)<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was developed with support from the Advanced Manufacturing Technologies Programme of the Department of Science &amp; Technology(DST).<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>How does the SCFLsm system work?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This system works on a similar principle, as superconductors offer zero resistance to currents up to a threshold current value.
