Hence, Royal Barbados Police Force will become Barbados Police Force and crown lands would become state lands.<\/span><\/p>\n Moreover, the country would continue to celebrate Independence Day on November 30 but not just in remembrance of removing Queen Elizabeth II as the head but also in the memory of the country\u2019s first president.<\/span><\/p>\n Note:<\/strong> Barbados will not be the first former British colony in the Caribbean to become a republic. Guyana took that step in 1970, less than four years after gaining independence from Britain.
