FLPR has fallen from 31.2% in 2011-12 to 24.5% in 2018-19. There is an increase in the number of women pursuing higher education. But the FLPR is declining and the unemployment rate of women is increasing.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>What are the factors behind the decline in the Female Labour Participation Rate?<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>1) Domestic responsibilities and burden of unpaid care.\u00a0 2) Lack of safety and mobility\u00a0 3) Interplay of social norms and identities. 4) Occupational segregation and limited opportunities to enter non-traditional sectors with inadequate supportive infrastructure such as piped water, cooking fuel<\/p>\n<p>In addition to these, crimes against women and girls (CaW&amp;G) is the most important barrier to women\u2019s participation.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>What is the impact of crime against women in women&#8217;s participation?<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/national-crime-records-bureau-ncrb\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">National Crime Records Bureau<\/a> data, crimes deter women from stepping out to work. This is evident as at the national level FLFPR declined by 8% and CaW&amp;G more than tripled to 57.9%.<\/p>\n<p>State-level analysis shows that there is a negative correlation between FLFPR and crime against women. Data from Himachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Chhattisgarh and Sikkim show that Low crime against women has led to high FLFPR.
