The government of India has said that the Paika rebellion cannot be called the first War of Independence<\/span><\/p>\n

At present, the Indian Mutiny or Sepoy Mutiny of 1857 is called the first war of Independence against British Rule.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is the Central Government response to the proposal of Paika rebellion as the First War of Independence?<\/b><\/h5>\n

The Government of India has said that the Paika Rebellion cannot be called the first War of Independence.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

However,\u00a0 considering that the rebellion which started in 1817 continued till 1825 and is one of the beginnings of popular uprisings against the British in India, the government declared that it would now be included in the curriculum of the Class VIII history textbook of NCERT.<\/span><\/p>\n
