{"id":151409,"date":"2021-12-07T20:44:25","date_gmt":"2021-12-07T15:14:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=151409"},"modified":"2021-12-08T09:48:05","modified_gmt":"2021-12-08T04:18:05","slug":"afforestation-funds-released-to-states","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/afforestation-funds-released-to-states\/","title":{"rendered":"Afforestation funds released to States"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h5><b>What is the News?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA) has so far disbursed \u20b948,606 crores to 32 States.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chhattisgarh and Odisha have had the maximum amount transferred to them, followed by Jharkhand and Maharashtra.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>What is Compensatory Afforestation?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Compensatory Afforestation (CA)<\/strong> is defined as the process of afforestation, and associated regeneration activities, done to compensate for destroyed forest land that has been diverted to non-forest activities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Under the Forest Conservation Act 1980<\/strong>, every time forest land is diverted for non-forest purposes such as mining or industry, the project developer is supposed to identify non-forest land of an equal area and also pay for planting forests over this, or when that is not available, on twice the area of degraded forest land.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>About Compensatory<\/b><b> Afforestation Fund<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Compensatory<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Afforestation Fund <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Act was passed by the centre in 2016 and the related rules were notified in 2018.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Act was enacted to manage the funds collected for compensatory afforestation, which till then was managed by ad hoc Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA).<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>Key Provisions of <\/b><b>\u00a0Compensatory<\/b><b> Afforestation Fund <\/b><b>Act,2016<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The act established a <strong>National Compensatory Afforestation Fund<\/strong> under the Public Account of India and a State Compensatory Afforestation Fund under the Public Account of each state.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>These Funds will receive payments for<\/strong>\u00a0(i) compensatory afforestation, (ii) net present value of forest (NPV), and (iii) other project specific payments.
