News<\/span><\/b>-India is aiming to manufacture silicon semiconductor\u00a0<\/span>chip,\u00a0it has\u00a0rec<\/span>ently made efforts to set up a fabrication plant with the help of Taiwan, which is a leader in the Chip making industry.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Have there been any initiatives for setting up Chip making Industry in the past\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

NASSCOM had in the past tried to set up ecosystem for establishing chip making industry in Andhra Pradesh\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What are the factors that make any place an ideal location for chip making Industry<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Availability of water,\u00a0sand\u00a0(raw material for making silicon ingots),\u00a0connectivity to all three major transport means (air, rail, road) and availability of human\u00a0resource\u00a0(technical experts).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What other factor should be taken care of while setting up the foundation of chip making industry<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Although establishment\u00a0of\u00a0Chip\u00a0making Industry is an important step,\u00a0but what is needed is a system on a chip ecosystem (SoCs).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

SoCs\u00a0is a combination of chip making, designing and intellectual property.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Intellectual Property\u00a0will enable India to take complete advantage of chip making capability, in the absence of which it will just remain a mere manufacturer of base material.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Way forward-<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Government needs to take definite steps to enable India to make a mark in niche chip making\u00a0industry.\u00a0Also,\u00a0it needs to be ensured that the\u00a0industry\u00a0keeps growing even after government support is withdrawn after some years.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
