Parliament has passed the Central Vigilance Commission<\/a> <\/strong><\/span>(Amendment) Bill, 2021, and the Delhi Special Police Establishment (Amendment) Bill, 2021.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Bill extends the tenur<\/strong>e of the chiefs of the Central Bureau of Investigation and the Enforcement Directorate<\/a><\/strong><\/span> to a maximum of five years<\/strong> from the earlier minimum period of two years.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

What are the arguments in support of the Bill?<\/b><\/h5>\n

Firstly, <\/b><\/em>rather than extending, <\/b>the <\/span>amendments were actually fixing the upper limit of the tenure of the chiefs.

Secondly, <\/b><\/em>India has among the shortest tenures globally for an investigative agency head. Hence, that’s why the bill was needed.<\/span><\/p>\n
