Supreme court has recently allowed an advocate who has bipolar disorder to take charge as a judicial officer.\u00a0This\u00a0decision\u00a0came after a long legal battle and scrutiny by medical and judicial experts.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This kind of hearing is not possible in every case.\u00a0Thus\u00a0people with mental disabilities may suffer from discrimination and loss of opportunity.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What is the status of awareness and help available to people with mental health issues?\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The lack of psychological help in the country makes situation\u00a0worse,\u00a0(Eleven of 12 surveyed states couldn\u2019t meet the requirement of one psychiatrist per 1 lakh population; availability of clinical psychologists was even lower).\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

These figures are worrisome considering that 2020 saw a 10% rise in suicides from 2019.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
