Cabinet has approved an incentive scheme for promotion of Rupay debit cards and low value BHIM-UPI transactions (Person to Merchant) of up to 2000 rupees in the country. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This scheme currently has a validity of one year.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What is the scheme?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>\n

Under the scheme, the government will reimburse transaction charges levied on digital payments made by persons to the merchant (P2M) as part of the merchant discount rate (MDR).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The approved scheme will cover reimbursement on digital transactions of up to \u20b92,000, using Rupay debit cards and BHIM-UPI.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Benefits of scheme<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>\n

1) It will <\/span>facilitate banks in building robust digital payment ecosystem<\/span><\/b> and promoting RuPay Debit card and BHIM-UPI digital transactions<\/span>. This will <\/span>further promote digital payments in the country.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

2) The <\/span>unbanked and marginalized population<\/span><\/b> which is currently outside the formal banking and financial system <\/span>will be able to access digital payments<\/span><\/b>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

3) It will lead to <\/span>research and development and innovation in fintech space<\/span><\/b>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
