Melanin is the pigment that gives color to eyes, hair and skin. It\u2019s also the same pigment that\u2019s responsible for the color of turtles shells. These flaps of skin cover the limbs when they retract into the shell.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Distribution:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> They are found in <\/span><b>Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh (Indus and Ganges drainages), and Myanmar<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Irrawaddy and Salween Rivers).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They live in the <\/span><b>shallow, quiet, often stagnant waters<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of rivers, streams, marshes, ponds, lakes and irrigation canals, and tanks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These turtles prefer waters with sand or mud bottoms because of their tendency to burrow.
