India&#8217;s approach is similar to ASEAN&#8217;s and based on following points:<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8211;<\/strong> Release of political prisoners<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8211;<\/strong> Resolution of issues through dialogue<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8211;<\/strong> Cessation of all violence; and full cooperation with ASEAN<\/p>\n<p>It has to be remembered that India has no intention to act as a mediator in the military-NLD (National League for Democracy) conflict. That role is to played by ASEAN.<\/p>\n<table style=\"border-collapse: collapse; width: 100%;\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%;\"><strong>Must Read<\/strong>: <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/coup-in-myanmar-and-india-myanmar-bilateral-relations-explained\/\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Coup in Myanmar and India-Myanmar relations &#8211; Explained<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h5><strong>How has the world handled relations with Myanmar post-coup?<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><strong>&#8211; Russia<\/strong> has looked to strengthen ties with the new rulers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8211;<\/strong> <strong>China<\/strong> regretted the loss of Daw Suu Kyi as a valuable ally but took urgent steps to stabilise and expand cooperation with the military regime.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8211;<\/strong> <strong>The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)<\/strong> first gave its \u2018<strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/aseans-initiative-to-end-political-crisis-in-myanmar\/\">Five-Point Consensus<\/a><\/span>\u2019<\/strong> formula, but Myanmar\u2019s top leader Senior General Min Aung Hlaing refused to cooperate in the formula\u2019s implementation.<\/p>\n<h5>What is the Myanmar military regime&#8217;s view regarding India?<\/h5>\n<p>Military leadership&#8217;s following actions show that it&#8217;s desirous of cooperation with India:<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8211;<\/strong> <strong>Handing over five cadres<\/strong> of the Manipur People\u2019s Liberation Army to Indian authorities before the foreign secretary&#8217;s visit<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8211;<\/strong> It also <strong>renewed the previous pledge<\/strong> that its nation\u2019s territory would not be allowed to be used for any activities detrimental to India&#8217;s interests.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8211;<\/strong> <strong>Special gesture<\/strong> made by Senior General Min Aung Hlaing <em>(who is Chairman of the SAC and Prime Minister)<\/em> to receive India&#8217;s foreign secretary and hold detailed discussions in Yangon. This protocol departure of a highly protocol-conscious Myanmar leadership reflects the weight that India commands in Myanmar.<\/p>\n<table style=\"border-collapse: collapse; width: 100%;\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%;\"><strong>Must Read<\/strong>: <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/indias-strategy-for-myanmar\/\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">India&#8217;s strategy for Myanmar<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>What are some bilateral concerns b\/w India and Myanmar?<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8211; Border security and stability in its neighbourhood<\/strong>: There has been a noticeable escalation of activities of anti-India insurgent groups.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8211; Refugee issue<\/strong>: Several thousands of Myanmar people have sought shelter in Mizoram. This will only be reversed by a political settlement in Myanmar, through dialogue.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8211; Economic cooperation<\/strong>: The usual emphasis wrt economic sphere is on people-centric socio-economic developmental projects. Central to this is India\u2019s long-delayed commitment to \u201cexpeditious implementation\u201d of mega initiatives such as the Trilateral Highway and <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/india-myanmar-agree-to-work-towards-operationalization-of-sittwe-port\/\">Kaladan<\/a><\/strong><\/span> projects. Unfortunately, no revised deadlines were announced.
