During his Mann Ki Baat address, the Prime Minister spoke about <\/span>a dying form of art known as Kaavi Art. He has urged people to work towards preserving such ancient forms in the country.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is Kaavi Art?<\/b><\/h5>\n

Kaavi is a form of wall art<\/strong> <\/span>found in Konkan region,<\/strong> especially in temples of Goa, parts of coastal Maharashtra<\/strong> and Karnataka<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The art was introduced by the Portuguese<\/strong> who ruled Goa until 1961.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The art takes its name from <\/span>Kaav<\/i><\/strong> in Konkani<\/strong> which refers to Indian red pigment which is the only color used in this painting. The red pigment<\/strong> is obtained from the laterite soil.<\/span><\/p>\n

The painting is<\/span> done on wet plaster in a manner similar to frescoes [<\/em><\/span>Fresco is <\/span>a technique of mural painting executed upon freshly laid (wet) lime plaster]<\/span>.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

The painting is d<\/span>one in bright red and white shades<\/strong>. <\/span>It is usually done <\/span>on the walls of temples and homes that depicts the ancient history of India.<\/span><\/p>\n
